KONNICHIWA (Hello)!
My name is Michiyo Buckwalter. I have enjoyed teaching Japanese language and culture for more than fifteen years now. I was born in and grew up in Nagano, Japan, where the 1998 Winter Olympics was held. I cheered on the Olympic-torch relay- runners one block from my parents’ house. I listened to British and American rock music all the time in my traditional Japanese style room that had Tatami mats and a paper sliding door. I dreamed of coming to the U.S. someday. Living in the U.S. has been the biggest adventure of my life. This adventure allows me to have new opportunities and to observe new ways of thinking. I believe everyone can be successful.
