Ich heisse Emily Carlson! My name is Emily Carlson, and I have loved the culture of the German-speaking world for as long as I can remember. After completing a B.A. and M.A. in German Language and Literature at the University of Montana in Missoula (where I grew up), I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for further graduate work in German Studies. I have taught German at the secondary (grades 7-12), undergraduate and graduate levels for twenty years, and my experiences abroad include living with a family and attending Gymnasium classes in Nürnberg, chaperoning student trips to various countries, and a college semester in Wien (Vienna).
When I’m not sharing my passion for German with students, I love spending time with my husband, daughter, son, and Cocker Spaniel. We love growing food in our garden and cooking and baking together. We enjoy traveling whenever we can – whether it’s visiting family all over the country, adventuring in National Parks, or (someday!) taking a family trip to Europe.
